Ashley is a Senior Attorney with substantial litigation experience and a desire to make the law work for the public good. At SJLF, Ashley investigates and litigates cases concerning unjust practices and conduct that affect marginalized communities. She also supports and mentors SJLF’s fellows in developing their skills as civil rights lawyers.
Ashley comes to SJLF from Hueston Hennigan LLP, where she litigated complex business disputes for plaintiffs and defendants. During her time in private practice, Ashley managed all aspects of a case, from drafting pleadings and motions to managing discovery and going to trial. She served on two trial teams, securing favorable results for her clients in both. She also represented Freedom For Immigrants in a high-profile First Amendment case in which the team obtained an injunction against ICE that protected the non-profit’s First Amendment rights and restored a critical lifeline for persons in immigration detention. Prior to practicing at Hueston Hennigan LLP, Ashley served as a law clerk in the United States District Court for the Central District of California and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Ashley has always had a passion for public interest work. Her time in JusticeCorps as a college student and as a Legal Advocate at the Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice (now the Survivor Justice Center) were formative in her decision to pursue a career in law. During law school, Ashley was a member of the David J. Epstein Program in Public Interest Law and Policy and spent much of her time learning about and working on issues affecting individuals impacted by the carceral system, including working at the ACLU National Prison Project, externing at A New Way of Life, and co-chairing UCLA’s Reentry Clinic. She also spent countless hours honing her oral argument skills in Moot Court, earning top honors at multiple competitions. Ashley has also been a Board member of UCLA Law Women LEAD since 2017.
When she’s not at her desk, Ashley enjoys playing with her daughter, visiting SoCal’s beautiful beaches, and watching RuPaul’s Drag Race. And she will never say no to a good cup of coffee.
